The Sound Foundation was established 1988 as a consequence of pollution and algae flowering. The aim of the foundation is to provide clean water and living bottoms in the Sound (between Denmark and Sweden). This will be done through collecting of facts and information of status to politicians, authorities and common people through papers, TV, radio and education in school to teachers and pupils.

The Sound is one of the worlds most frequented sea areas as regarded to marine transportations. In this fast growing region live more than 4 millions of people. The Sound has a very rich marine life: Different kind of bottoms dwells a rich fauna, which makes them to good feeding habitats for many fish species.

Besides the intensive shipping, you find fishermen in small fishing vessels as well as a number of larger ships taking out people to fish especially cods and herrings.
There are a great number of sailing yachts, divers and other people who uses the Sound as recreation area.
On the bottoms there are also great number of archeological artifacts.

Among threats for the Sound is filling of shallow areas with waste and ash. The building of wind power parks, building of harbors and using the Sound for wastewater from homes and industries. Today trawling for fish is forbidden, though the coastguard reports trawling ships now and then.

There is a need of different kinds of protection both for the water and the bottoms.

Information of facts and education is the best way how to manage the problems for sustainable survival of this special environment.

For the very first time in the history of Europe, everybody can ”dive underwater” in the sea and discover the natural,
marine life. Webcamera
